By 1560 Trumpets were being used in the theatre to play between acts, Monteverdi used Trumpets in Orfeo in 1607, Purcell used them in Dioclesian, Scarlatti used them in his operas, and the valved trumpet, developed in the late 1820's was used by Rossini in William Tell in 1829. Problems of pitch arose when trumpets began to play in ensembles variations to the instrument being made by English trumpeter John Hyde in the late 18th century and also by Viennese instrument maker Joseph Felix Riedel. The valved trumpet appeared in the 1820's.
In the 1880's trumpets in A, Bb and C started to be made, most 19th century trumpets were in F while military bands preferred Eb trumpets. These days most orchestral, jazz or pop trumpeters generally use the Bb trumpet, orchestral musicians sometimes using trumpets pitched in D.
