Tuilleries gardens in Paris
g
The Tuilleries Gardens were established on the site of a tile-works on the banks of the River Seine. Initially a private royal pleasure garden started by Catherine de Medici . Later Henri IV built a terrace along the Rue de Rivoli, and Andre le Notre re-designed the Grand Jardin and built a terrace along the riverbank where his father's house had stood. He also opened up the central axis which leads to the Arc de Triomphe and La Defense.
